Spyderco Lum Chinese Folder Natural G-10 HAP40/SUS420 Exclusive - Combination Edge/Plain Edge
The late Bob Lum was an amazingly skilled knifemaker with a unique talent for adapting traditional Asian blade patterns to modern custom and production knives. The true pioneer of the ubiquitous Americanized tanto blade pattern, he was also one of Spyderco's most popular design collaborators. One of his best-known designs was his Chinese Folder, which was inspired by the "Shilin Cutter"—an iconic ethnic folding knife with a distinctive “bamboo-leaf-shaped” blade.
This Exclusive version of the Lum Chinese Folder features a high-performance HAP40/420J2 laminate blade steel and natural G-10 handle scales. It was specially manufactured for Blade HQ and is available only through their sales channels. Its laminated blade features a high-performance HAP40 tool steel core couched between layers of 420J2 stainless steel. Containing generous amounts of tungsten, molybdenum, vanadium, and cobalt, HAP40 possesses exceptional toughness and high abrasion resistance. When flanked by layers of 420J2 stainless steel it is even tougher, and the transition between the core and the outer layers is clearly visible just above the cutting Edge.
Not to be outdone, the distinctive handle of this knife features textured natural G-10 scales. The near-translucent quality of this material showcases the knife's skeletonized stainless steel liners and LinerLock mechanism while providing a secure, non-slip grip. To ensure ease of carry and keep the knife poised for instant access, the handle includes a polished stainless steel pocket clip that can be configured for right-side tip-up or tip-down carry.
